Every Friday we highlight five things we have on our radar that we think should be on yours, too.

Here’s this week’s Friday Fives!

Yes, Pecan
Politics got you down? Turn that partisan-induced stress into something productive by VOTING ON NOVEMBER 6TH! Until then, we can all find some comfort with the world’s oldest and most effective coping mechanism: eating our feelings. Thanks to Ben & Jerry’s, the most political of ice cream brands, we can now stress-eat with a purpose. Just in time for the midterms, Ben & Jerry’s has partnered with four progressive organizations to release a limited edition flavor titled “Pecan Resist” that takes a stance on everything from racial equality to climate change. So go ahead — curl up on the couch with a soothing cup of tea, your local voting guide, and a pint of ice cream (or three). — KJ

Behold, the most horrifying Halloween costume of 2018
Nothing is more terrifying than work, and this viral Halloween costume proves it. Dressed as the ironically-named Slack (because we all know that slacking is nearly impossible with a constant connection to work at our fingertips), this Twitter user went the extra mile by replicating the app’s most harrowing feature — the notification sound that haunts your nightmares and chills the bones of office workers everywhere. 💀 Shooooop, click-click. — MC

Sex in what city? Not NYC
It’s a well-known fact that modern dating is the worst. As much as we’d all like our lives to resemble a real life rom com, our busy schedules, the overwhelming number of soon-to-be left swipes, and the daunting task of getting off the couch and putting on real pants to meet up with a stranger from the internet can make dating feel nearly impossible — especially in the big city. The Great Love Debate has revealed the top ten U.S. cities in need of some major dating advice, and (sorry NYC), it doesn’t look good. It seems that romance is seriously lacking in cities across the country including LA, New York City, Philadelphia, and, at the top of the list, Seattle. To all the urban singles out there on the hunt for a meaningful relationship with something other than our Netflix accounts, perhaps a move is in our future. 🔮 — JC

NBA sports new City Edition jerseys
Basketball season is officially underway and Nike is kicking things off by unveiling its annual collection of special City Edition uniforms. Featuring playful nods to hometown pop culture heroes, local landmarks, and historic references, these head-turning threads will soon be sported by NBA elite following the rollout of all final designs over the next week. As a midwest native, I’m happy to see the Timberwolves showing off some Minnesota pride and finding their inner funk with a jersey inspired by Prince’s legendary “Purple Rain.” Hopefully they can channel some of that magic to actually win a game or two this season. — KJ

This green Apple is pretty sweet
With the imminent destruction of the Earth quickly approaching, it’s welcome news that tech giant Apple has joined the ranks of leading companies moving towards more eco-friendly strategies. This week in New York, Apple launched a MacBook Air with a shell made from 100 percent recycled aluminium alloy, helping to reduce its carbon footprint by nearly half. Other green initiatives include a motherboard made from 100 percent recycled tin and an increased amount of recycled plastic used in internal components. These shifts are giving us a much needed glimmer of hope for the state of our planet — but just in case, we’re still saving for our tickets on Virgin Galactic. — AB
