This week we’re hand picking some hand-painted posters, binge watching some bad CEOs, and taking ourselves out to the ballgame for the start of the season.

NYC Poster Boys

Today we’re highlighting a local artist team that’s literally leaving their mark all over New York. If you’re a local yourself, you’ve likely seen the Cevallos Bros work around the city. Their charming hand-painted posters are a fixture at popular restaurants like Yellow Rose, Rubirosa, Pies ’n’ Thighs, and many more. If you’re a NY establishment, or a place outside looking to add some NY flair to your decor, DM them on Instagram for a custom piece. We’re not a restaurant — although we do serve up piping hot creative — but we might just need a poster for our office that we (sometimes) use.

Naughty CEOs Make Great TV

When a trailblazing CEO goes off the rails, it’s hard to look away from the impending disaster as it unfolds on a national scale. Hollywood capitalized on this morbid fascination with a slate of new shows that all feature startups led by enigmatic entrepreneurs, following the crazy yet true stories of how unicorn companies slowly transformed into regular corporate beasts. From WeCrashed, the story of WeWork’s Adam Neumann, to The Dropout, the tale of failed health-tech company Theranos’ Elizabeth Holmes, pop culture is going all in on stories of visionary leaders who lost sight of their goals. These shows humanize the real people to an extent, but they also suggest that the culture of, “I’M A QUIRKY CEO I CAN BUY A GIRAFFE FOR THE OFFICE IF I WANT TO,” is under serious scrutiny. Looking at you, Elon.

Buy Me Some Peanuts and Cracker Jills

Yesterday was the official start of the 2022 MLB season. To mark the occasion, beloved ballpark food Cracker Jack revealed that the prize inside their newest line of snacks is inclusivity. The caramel popcorn and peanut staple announced a new team of mascots collectively called Cracker Jill, a team of women icons designed to celebrate women in sports. If you think professional baseball is a little dull, why not check out the Savannah Bananas? They’re changing the game quite literally with a wacky brand of baseball full of hijinks. The MLB could learn a thing or two from the Bananas, especially after a long lockout and PR nightmare. Hey, Bananas, if you ever want to team up, hit us up. We think our partnership would be a homerun. Many puns, all intended.

Hulu Gets a Logo Redo

Brands go through routine identity updates all the time, but it’s not every day that a company as big as Hulu lets people have this much fun with their brand system. Hulu launched an initiative they called Hulu IDs, in which they asked emergic artists from around the world for more than moodboards and logo explorations. They tasked creators with coming up with video concepts that maintain the essence of Hulu’s old logo, but expand it into bold new territories that are quirky, diverse, and modern. We applaud Hulu for this non-traditional rebrand that doubles as killer digital content. All this Hulu talk is making us want to binge The Great from start to finish… for the third time.

Delivery Takes Flight

Wing, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company Alphabet, is officially launching drone delivery in the Dallas area. For now, only certain stores that are partnered with Wing are participating, including Walgreens, Blue Bell Creameries, and Easyvet. The drone delivery system operates out of small shipping containers near the businesses. Once an order is placed, an employee loads the drone with goods, and then a Wing drone pilot takes it from there. If Wing finds success in Dallas, expect them to start ramping up operations around the country. We hope that eventually they’ll come to New York. Not that we don’t love delivery guys, we just like that a drone can’t judge you for your 2 AM diner order of mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders.
